The HRA program is limiting eligible repairs to make sure approved projects can be completed before the federal funding deadline of September 30, 2026 set by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Treasury guidance states that NHAF funds cannot pay for homeowner expenses after the deadline has passed. Because of this, NHAF is focusing on critical repairs that can be completed more quickly and that help keep homeowners safe and in their homes.
Eligible repairs currently include:
- HVAC
- Electrical
- Major plumbing
- Roofing
- Other urgent health and safety repairs
Projects that typically take longer to complete — such as additions, foundation work, or where delays ordering building materials impact project timelines — are no longer eligible.
Homeowners who have a serious health and safety issue or code violation may request an exception through their NHAF representative that will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
