Getting Started
Step 1 – Gather the documentation listed Here.
Step 2 – Register
Step 3 – Login to start the application and upload your documents.
Step 4 – Submit your application – the application is not submitted until you click on the submit tab after completing the application.
All programs must meet the Basic Eligibility Requirements of the NHAF program.
- Mortgage Reinstatement Assistance (MRA) Up to $50,000 – For homeowners who are in active forbearance, delinquency, or default status and at risk of losing their home. It provides financial assistance to allow a homeowner to reinstate a mortgage to bring payments current.
- Monthly Mortgage Payment Assistance (MMPA) Up to 24 months/Up to $72,000 – For homeowners who are at risk of payment delinquency or foreclosure due to a loss of household income. It provides monthly assistance to eligible homeowners, not to exceed a maximum term of 24 months with up to $3000 in monthly assistance.
- Current monthly mortgage payments must be more than 30% of gross household income
- Must have a decrease in household income
- Home Repair Assistance Fund (HRA) Up to $100,000 – For homeowners who require significant home repairs or additions without which the safety, reliability, and sufficiency of housing is at risk. It will prevent homeowner displacement and to maintain the habitability of the home, including the reasonable addition of habitable space to alleviate overcrowding. This is not for cosmetic purposes, this is for safety, reliability, and to avoid displacement from the home due to not being habitable.
HAF Program Definition of Financial Hardship
It must be determined a homeowner’s hardship is associated with the coronavirus pandemic.
Financial hardship means a material reduction in income or material increase in living expenses associated with the coronavirus pandemic that has created or increased a risk of mortgage delinquency, mortgage default, foreclosure, loss of utilities or home energy services, or displacement for a homeowner.
Evidence of the financial hardship must be provided by supporting documentation
For example:
Job loss – letter of temporary layoff or termination, unemployment documentation Reduction in income – income documentation prior to current income
Increased costs due to healthcare – copies of medical bill
Increased household expenses – documentation of expenses prior to financial hardship and expenses after financial hardship beganThese are examples only and additional information and documentation may be required

Basic Eligibility Requirements
All requirements must be supported with proper documentation
- Applicant must be an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation with ownership interest in the property (on the deed of trust)
- Must be applicant’s primary residence
- Home must be off reservation on Fee Simple land
- Household income must be less than 150% of HAF program limits
- Homeowners must have a financial hardship after January 21, 2020

What is the Process?
- Gather the documentation listed in the “What do I need to get started” tab
- Register when the portal is open
- Complete the application and upload the required documentation
- Once you submit the application, you will receive confirmation of your submission
- An introductory email will be sent from your processor
- Your application and documentation will be reviewed
- Your processor will request missing items or additional information and documentation
- You will have 10 days to send the requested documentation
- Once received, your file will be put back in line to be reviewed
- If all requested items and documentation has not been received, a second request willbe made and you will have 7 days to provide the requested documents.
- If we have not received everything requested within the 7 days, your application will beclosed as incomplete.
- If all requested documents have been received, your file will be submitted for QA review
- Any items need after QA review, will be requested
- 3 business days will be given to send any items needed
- Once items are received, your file will be put back in line for final QA review
- After QA review and all information and documentation has been received, your file willbe moved and in line for funding
- Funding will review the necessary documentation to fund your request
- You will receive confirmation of your approval and funding
